Serac Alpine Club is a member-owned, family-friendly alpine lodge located at Whakapapa and Ohakune.
Built around skiing and mountain life, Serac offers a warm, welcoming base where families can stay right on the mountain and enjoy everything Ruapehu has to offer — from snow sports in winter to biking and hiking in the warmer months.

As a not-for-profit lodge, Serac provides some of the most affordable alpine accommodation on the mountain, making it easier for families to spend more time outdoors without the high cost of commercial lodging.

How Membership Works
Serac Alpine Lodge is a not-for-profit, member-owned lodge built around making time on the mountain more accessible for families.
When you join as a member, you unlock access to both our Whakapapa and Ohakune lodges — giving you a warm, reliable base for ski trips, weekends away, and year-round adventures.
Because we’re not a commercial operation, our focus is simple: keep costs low, keep the lodge welcoming, and make it easy for families to come back again and again.
Affordable Alpine Stays
With a mix of family rooms and per-bunk options, staying on the mountain becomes something you can do regularly — not just once a year.
Family Yearly Membership - Get A Key To the Two Lodges (2 adults & up to 3 children)
$650 per year
Peak Winter Family Room (sleeps up to 6)
Only $250 per night (includes dinner and breakfast)
Per-bunk options are also available for adults and children.

Whakapapa Lodge
Located at Iwikau Village on the Whakapapa side of Mt Ruapehu, our alpine lodge sits right on the mountain, adjacent to the Sky Waka gondola.
When conditions allow, Serac offers true ski-in, ski-out access - meaning you can step outside and head straight to the slopes without battling morning traffic or car park queues. Staying on the mountain means more time skiing, less time waiting.
In winter, enjoy genuine ski-lodge convenience. In summer, use the Sky Waka as your gateway to alpine walks, hiking tracks, and panoramic volcanic landscapes.
Ohakune Lodge
Located right beside the famous Carrot Park in the heart of Ohakune, our second lodge offers a relaxed, family-friendly base with everything at your doorstep.
Carrot Park is a local favourite — a large, community-built playground that’s a huge drawcard for families. With town just a short walk away, you can easily explore cafés, restaurants, and local shops without needing to drive.
With straightforward access to Turoa ski field and some of the region’s best mountain biking and walking tracks, Ohakune Lodge is perfect for families who enjoy both alpine adventure and a bit of town atmosphere.
